Brut - White French Champagne

The Grands Crus selected by Pommery enjoy exceptional locations in vineyards of the Champagne region: their south–south-east exposure ensures maximum sunlight and their cultivation in the middle of hill slopes in rich chalky Champagne terrain guarantees excellent irrigation of the foot of the vines.  Only 7 grand cru sites are used to make this cuvée.  A complex nose of ripe stone fruits and French toast.  More robust on the palate, with a long and structured finish.  As it is a richer style of champagne it can stand up to many different dishes, making it great to drink throughout the meal.

Tasting Notes
A fine golden colour with green highlights. The nose has a few lively notes enhanced by a rich characteristic. The mouthfeel is brisk and fresh at first leading to a sense of great subtlety and body and culminating in a creamy, fleshy texture.
History
Pommery & Greno was established in 1836, but it was the highly entrepreneurial Jeanne-Alexandrine Louise Pommery, who in 1858 took over the running of the business after the unexpected death of her husband, that made sure the Pommery name and reputation was internationally recognised. Madame Pommery launched the first commercially successful `Brut Champagne in history `Pommery Brut Nature 1874, at a time when champagne was excessively sweetened with sugar.
Regional Information
Pommery is based and produced in Reims, one of the key regions for the production of wine and where many of the famous and original names in Champagne are established. The original Pommery Domaine is still used in the production of all our wines including 18km of chalk galleries located 30 metres below ground where maturation takes place.

Very nice Champagne

In a similar stable as the other main brands with their 2004 Vintage, this isn't the greatest year for any of them but this has really good depth of flavour, a rich steady mouse and not over fizzy, with a rather deep straw colour, I really enjoyed it. Like similar priced leading Champagnes theres not really that much between the main names, I dont think any of them produce a poor Champagne its just a matter of preference, and budget. In order of preference I prefer Krug, Pol Roger, Bollinger, Pommery then Veuve, just to give you an idea of my palate, I would highly recommend Pommery Vintage 04 especially when on a price promotion. This arrived unboxed just in case your'e thinking of giving this as a gift.
