Product information

Siccari is Sicilian dialect for sun-dried; we let our finest grapes dry naturally in the Sicilian sunshine, a wine-making style called appassimento. The juice in the grapes becomes very concentrated, giving a wine which is truly different.
Siccari has an intense bouquet of damsons, it is voluptuous and silky-smooth, with layers of luscious flavours, from raisins to Morello cherries.
Purato is a range of organic Sicilian wines with a conscience! It is Green-To-The-Extreme as it ticks every sustainable box - the wines are: - organic 🌱 - carbon-neutral 🐾 - vegan-friendly 🥦 - packaged in recycled & recyclable materials ♻️

Tasting Notes
Rich and complex structure, with very soft berry fruits and a touch of spice. Incredibly characterful, it has layer upon layer intense and diverse fruit flavours and a very long finish.
History
Purato is a pure reflection of the island of Sicily. It is an expression of nature, an attempt to capture the beauty of the rugged landscapes and a devotion to sustainability in every aspect of production that results in authentic wines with purity of flavour.
Purato is not just organic, vegan-friendly and carbon-neutral, no stone is left unturned to ensure it is sustainable from the cultivation of grapes to winemaking, bottling, and every aspect of packaging.
Regional Information
The grapes come from vineyards in the Vittoria area of Southeast Sicily. The sandy soil is known locally as “ferretti”, which adds to the concentration and finesse of the wines. A proportion of the grapes are dried on the vine and the rest are picked and dried with the utmost care on racks. The name Siccari comes from the Sicilian dialect for “seccare”, which translates as “to dry” in the context of foods, something that is very much a part of Sicilian culture.

Vinification Details
Vinification is carried out as gently as possible. De-stemming is followed by a particularly soft crushing. We carry out very frequent pumping over in the early part of fermentation. The wine is aged in 30HL Slavonian oak barrels.

In the bin

I'm generally wine agnostic and will drink almost anything... but this went straight in the bin. Everyone at our dinner party agreed - it was sickly sweet and syrupy!

Off?

Judging by the mainly good reviews, my bottle must have been off. Could not drink it and unfortunately used it in cooking which made my meal inedible.
