Has something changed recently?
I have bought this many times (usually on special offer) and would previously have recommended but 2 recent purchases have been bland and fairly tasteless. I’m wondering if they have changed the recipe because of the big jumps in cocoa prices.
Disappointing
Ruined by tobacco-like background taste which I suspect comes from the chicory ingredient. Not at all pleasant to my palate.
Okay but not amazing
Not as good as I was expecting. For those saying it's grainy or tastes watery; it only does that if you have it when too cold. You need to soften it a huge amount to lose that, however even then it is still slightly powdery. I wouldn't say it's proper gelato, gelato should should be rich, dense without being heavy and super smooth - this just misses the mark.
Dont read the reviews
I have learnt never to read the bad reviews on Ocado but go buy and try myself. I bought one and my son ate it in one sitting so have have to buy 2 more so the rest of the family can at least try it ! But thats stars are my teenage sons verdict
For dark chocolate fans?
Didn't really like this ice cream mainly because I had it immediately after a scoop of the Remeo vanilla gelato (which is amazing and very sweet). This ice cream reminded me of dark chocolate in its bitterness and flavor profile. I don't like dark chocolate all that much but I still gave this 4 stars because the quality of the chocolate is very high for an ice cream. It's just a shame it has bitter notes, but I think dark chocolate lovers should like this.
Probably good quality, but just watery for us
I'm sure the quality of the ingredients is high and that warrants the high price, but for us, the overriding sensation was of wateriness, and it is just not very satisfying. We have half a tub left over, and I'm not looking forward to finishing it off, which defeats the purpose of something that is intended to be a treat. It might be a matter of preference, so I wouldn't go as far as urging others to not buy it, but if you like your frozen treats to be creamy and decadent, I do think you will agree with us.
