too much chilli
Tagine isn't supposed to blow your head off! It should have a warm heat and lots of fragrance from the spices. The chilli dominated everything, I couldn't even taste the lamb. What a shame the balance is all wrong
Trip to Marrakesh
I love making chicken/lamb tagine, but Im no expert and find myself buying expensive ingredients which hang around in the fridge/larder for too long, so I decided to cheat for a mid week meal. We absolutely loved the spice and flavours, I also bought a pre prepared Moroccan grains pouch to heat up with it. The meal was fabulous and I topped with flaked almonds. Worth a try! I shall be exploring the rest of the range.
Too hot
I usually make my own tagine sauce, but my husband bought this to try for convenience's sake. It was very disappointing - far too much heat which completely drowned out all the other spices. There was none of the delicious fragrance which I can achieve by simply chucking a selection of spices into the pot, and I'm NOT a good cook!
Tasty!
Imindoors and I really enjoyed this. Easy to prepare. Spicy and delicious. Would certainly buy again. And will add chickpeas instead of spuds.
What happened?
I've used this several times before and given it a good review but either the recipe has changed or there was a mix-up with this batch. It's now far hotter than it was and completely dominated by paprika which drowns out all the other more delicate spices. It's now more like a spicy Hungarian goulash than a Moroccan tagine of which I have cooked many in the past. There did seem to be a huge amount of spice in the second sachet for the quantities in the ingredients list and it completely obscures the flavour of the other ingredients.Sadly I won't be buying it again.
New find!
Bought this for a change due to excellent reviews. Followed recipe up til tomatoes and thought it still looked a bit meh. Spicy. Added another carton of passata and 2 lamb stock pots to make more/less spicy sauce and popped in oven at 150c for 2 hours, lid off, stirring occasionally until it had reduced to a thick tasty gravy. Sweet and spicy and unctuous. Husband did a 'oh wow' double take and declared 'much better than work canteen'. Praise indeed...
