Tasting Notes
Aromatic layers of red fruit and spicy florals lead to flavours of cherry, plum and finely integrated French oak in this elegant Awatere Valley Pinot Noir
History
Tohu produces award-winning New Zealand wine crafted from grapes grown in our breathtakingly beautiful, Awatere Valley vineyard. When Tohu launched in 1998 we were the world's first Māori-owned wine company. Since then we've grown a reputation for producing premium wine in a range of varieties, winning awards for our Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir and Méthode Traditionnelle.
Regional Information
The grapes were sourced from both our Whenua Awa vineyard and the vines that surround our Awatere Valley winery. The 2018 growing season began with near-perfect flowering conditions in December. January brought some of the warmest average temperatures on record, followed by a very wet February. Vigilance in the vineyard including rigorous canopy management and fruit thinning was done to ensure ripe fruit for harvest. The early warm weather brought harvest forward around two weeks earlier than average.

Vinification Details
Grapes are handpicked, gently destemmed and lightly crushed. Batch fermented in small open-top fermenters, the must undergos a cold soak before being warmed and either selected yeasts are added or natural yeast found on grapes is used. After fermentation, the wine matures on skins and then put in a combination of old and new French barriques. These barrels are kept cool cellar over the winter months, before being warmed in spring, allowing the wine to undergo a secondary malolactic fermentation.

a good Pinot Noir

We dont normally drink Pinot Noir but wanted to try something different to go with a duck confit. This was a perfect pairing. Im not sure Id buy to drink on its own. But if you like a Pinot, Id recommend trying this.

disappointed

Only 4 years old, but already thin and brown. Missing all the usual Marlborough fruit elements. Cant recommend at £20/bottle. At that price NZ can do much better.

Tohu Pinot Noir 2018

Sadly underwhelmed by this NZ pinot noir. It tasted thin with an aftertang to it. A mistaken choice for Christmas meal.

Hits the spot.

We had this with Xmas turkey. Excellent - light and fruity. Slightly out of my league for everyday drinking but will be my go-to for next Christmas.

Perfect summer wine

I am reviewing this product because I got a free sample from Ocado. I agree with TheFamilySupplyChainManager: treat yourself to this excellent wine and enjoy it slightly chilled. Superb!

Lovely light red

I was sent this from Ocado to review. Its a really nice, light, easy going red. We actually had it with roast chicken and it still complemented and went down well. Would definitely buy again.
