The Ackee is the true fruit of Jamaica. This unique fruit is, to the surprise of many, eaten as a vegetable: in vol-au-vents, with rice, in quiches and most often in one of Jamaica's signature dishes - Ackee and Saltfish.
The Ackee is found on a medium size tree that bears magnificent red and yellow pear shaped fruits. When ripe the pod naturally bursts open into three sections to expose three shiny black seeds, each attached to a yellow edible aril. It is this aril that is consumed after the seed has been removed.
To a real Jamaican there is no substitute for the taste of Ackee, the national fruit of Jamaica - it is the true taste of home.

The Worst Ackee
This is the worst Ackee ever. When you open the tin, it is like mushy peas. Avoid.
scrummy
It is expensive but a lovely treat. Great for vegan options.
Creamy and delicious
A bit expensive but I loved it. The ackee was creamy and delicious but they can be delicate to handle so you have to be careful when getting it out from the can and cooking it gently.
Delicious taste of Jamaica
I love ackee and salt fish (I get proper thick salt cod in Italian delicatessen as unfortunately the one available in supermarkets is dry and hardly any fish, just bones!). Ackee has always been expensive but I find the price at Ocado the same as Tesco and more often in stock.
Not as good as Dunns River
This will do when you have no alternative. Dunns River is much better. The ackee is more consistent in texture and cooks better.
Very good tinned ackee
Very good texture and flavour. Having had fresh ackee a number of times over the years this is a good alternative.
