Different but delicious
Repurchased several times, love this vegan pesto! It tastes different to regular supermarket pesto but in a delightful way. More zesty!
Jar is too big and it is not Pesto
I’m reviewing this product because I got a free coupon from Ocado. I don't understand why it is called Pesto, as there is not even vegan cheese in it, so is not really like a traditional pesto in taste and is quite acidic, which could be due to the high level of white wine vinegar. The jar is much too big, as it needs using within 14 days and you only use a small amount. It is not unpleasant, but I would not buy again.
Different in a not so bad way
Interesting product. Before I open it I can’t miss the fact that it is ‘free from artificial anything’ as it is impossible to view the jar without reading this. Good start but it’s definitely free from certain ingredients one would expect such as cheese?!. I get it’s vegan but no attempt has been made to add this flavour profile by adding nutritional yeast or a vegan cheese and I’m becoming more intrigued as I read through the list of ingredients. Instead of olive oil, it has rapeseed and toasted sesame oil and white wine, apple juice and chilli. No pine nuts but cashews. I take it over to an Italian friend’s house and offer to share my freebie. I decide to give it an Italian hug. We cook cannelloni beans, add onion, garlic, vegetable stock, wine, oregano, creme fraiche and a large dollop of the Zest basil pesto and serve it with dinosaur kale (cavolo nero) and roasted vine tomatoes (and a small rack of lamb). Flavour of the pesto is surprisingly good but I would prefer it if it had olive not rapeseed oil and the price was considerably less.
Outstanding
Received this product free to try and were not disappointed! We used this as suggested on the label to make some bruschetta. I bought some of the Fitzgerald's Bake at home sourdough baguettes from Ocado, made some garlic butter, used a tin of chopped tomatoes drained and topped with the pesto, shredded cheese and pepper. Finally, grill it. It was outstanding. Highly recommend. We only use about a quarter of the jar of pesto each time we've made this so you get a few good go's out of a jar or a larger batch. It's a fresh and bright flavour and would work great on pasta too.
Too vinegary
Im reviewing this product because I got a free coupon from Ocado. I agree with other reviewers that it had a very strong taste of vinegar and the texture was different to regular pesto.
Great for a number of uses
Received this free to review. This is great for adding extra flavour to Italian vegan dishes. Massive jar and a little goes a long way. Shame there arent any pine nuts added but I also have some as I like to toast them and throw them on pasta dishes etc
