Breakfast – the most important meal of the day. It’s definitely one that can set you up for a productive morning. This Quinoa Cinnamon Porridge is a tasty alternative to traditional oat porridge, packed with all the benefits that come with this fibrous seed. Originally from the Lake Titicaca basin in South America, the plant is now grown in the UK, amongst other countries. It’s packed with protein, dietary fiber, B vitamins and dietary minerals. This porridge is flavoured with cinnamon and vanilla, with a little crunch provided by coconut and almond flakes. Top it with blackberries and yoghurt to add a little tartness to this lovely warming breakfast.

  • 90g quinoa
  • 200ml dairy-free milk, or any other milk of your choice
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 40g coconut flakes
  • 100g almond flakes, toasted
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup, or honey (if you're not vegan)
  • 100g blackberries, or any other fruit
  • 2 tbsp dairy-free yoghurt, or greek yoghurt


Step 1

Heat the quinoa, milk, cinnamon and vanilla in a saucepan. When it starts to boil, turn down the heat, cover, and simmer until the quinoa is soft and has soaked up the liquid – 15 mins or so should do it.

Step 2

Remove the pan from the heat. Mix in the coconut, almonds and maple syrup. Spoon into two bowls and serve topped with the blackberries and yogurt.
