Tender, juicy chicken, golden crispy skin and cooked in 1 hour – we love this Air Fryer Whole Chicken recipe. We’ve used fresh rosemary and thyme for a classic Sunday lunch but try this with fresh oregano, a pinch of ground fennel and serve with sliced crispy potatoes for an Italian-inspired dinner next time. Ingredients

  • 2 tsp sea salt flakes
  • 2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 rosemary sprigs, finely chopped
  • 2 thyme sprigs, finely chopped
  • 1 (2kg) large whole chicken
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lemon, halved
  • 2 garlic cloves

Method

Step 1

Set the air fryer to 180°C.

Step 2

In a small bowl, mix the sea salt, pepper, chopped rosemary and thyme.

Step 3

Drizzle the chicken with oil then rub with the herb mix.

Step 4

Squeeze half a lemon over the chicken then put the other half inside the chicken along with the garlic. Put in the air fryer breast side down and roast for 40 mins then turn and roast for a further 20 mins until cooked through, golden brown and crispy.

Step 5

Remove from the air fryer basket and leave to rest for 10 mins then carve and serve with roast potatoes and vegetables, if you like.

Tips or serving suggestions

Cooking time will vary depending on the capacity of your air fryer. We used an 11L Tefal Easy Fry Air Fryer Oven.
