Just a bit odd really
I normally make my own chilli from scratch, but thought I’d try a jar of this to save myself some time…I wish I hadn’t bothered. It has a strange taste, can’t quite put my finger on it but it’s almost cinnamon like, odd seeing as there isn’t any cinnamon listed in the ingredients. It’s very sparse in the bean department, but that’s easily rectified by adding some in. But the thing I really wasn’t keen on was the amount of large bits of chunky onion…by the time I’d fished them all out it would have been quicker to make my own! According to the ingredients list this sauce contains 6.5% onions & peppers combined; I weighed out the onions I’d removed & it came in at over 10% (after making an allowance for the residual tomato sauce stuck to the onion)…& that was just the onion. Maybe “Ben” was having a bad day when this batch of sauce was made, but I won’t be buying it again. I should add, that I do actually like onion, but this was quite tough & pretty unpleasant.
Great taste
Made a quick an easy chilli con carne meal with this jar without the faff of buying the ingredients separately. I added a tin of kidney beans and chopped tomatoes with minced beef to make it more substantial. My children found it slightly too spicy.
