Banana Blossom is a large tear shaped fruit that grows at the end of a banana fruit cluster. It’s recently been acclaimed as the next best vegan meat substitute. Similar to Jackfruit, also originating from South East Asia, it has a neutral flavour with a chunky and flaky texture, perfect for creating vegan fish and chips. This fibrous and nutritious fruit can be added to curries, stir fries and lots more!

Fish Substitute
Seasoned them with seaweed and fried them in a beer batter. Would definitely use them again.
Too Fibrous \x26 Bland for me
I would not recommend this as I found it too fibrous & chewy. It's also pretty tasteless so would need to be used for bulk only. I guess that it's vitamins content is valuable but other than this, I fail to see the appeal.
Interesting in tempura
Marinated in lemon juice with seaweed and then fried in tempura. Tasted like crispy lemon something that I you would struggle to guess what it was. Very nice though. Lemon works with this. Worth looking for recipes but maybe avoid curry cos it’s not quite up to it.
Not a Hit
So, we did cook this in a curry with losts of spices and thought it would take on the flavours but it didnt really. We didnt like the texture and thought there are better meat subsitutes out there.
It’s ok
I’m reviewing this because Ocado sent me free sample to try. If you cut off the hard core ( bit like pineapple core) it is ok, We had it as pulled pork substitute and with lots of flavours and spices it was ok. It is a bit bland the flavour comes from spices added. (Like tofu and quorn) We have tried as pulled pork and as burritos, it’s ok but not amazing.
Good meat or fish substitute
Pretty good in a stir fry. Even my second most fussy child ate it and that really is saying something!
