This jam is really yummy, taste's sweet with a slight sour note. Great with toast and as it's got no added sugar it's unlike other fruit jam it's slightly better in terms of health. I've noticed a few other reviews stating that it's solid straight from the fridge, well that's due to the coconut oil solidifying which is understandable. So I don't store the jam in the fridge, just leave it at room temperature. It's great in baking, gives a rich dark colour, and flavoursome in a fruit cake. Only downside is the price for me.
Nice but not sure what to use it in
I like the flavour-not too sweet, but Im struggling to know what to put it with. I just tried a bit on a spoon as I was given it to review. Might be nice in a sponge I guess. As others have said it goes solid once refrigerated.
Tasty, but sets solid in the fridge
When freshly-opened, this was unusual and very tasty; smooth, refreshing, and extremely coconutty. (It doesn't taste nearly as sweet as I'd expect from 57% sugars.) But I followed the instructions and put it in the fridge, and it set solid; now it's hard to remove and almost impossible to spread.
Too hard to spread straight from the fridge
I really wanted to like this stuff. I thought it might be a good replacement for Kaya (traditional Singaporean coconut jam). Alas its not. First of all, unlike Kaya, this stuff is hard like a rock when its just out of the fridge. I have tried all manner of ways to get it to soften, like holding a chunk of it on a butter knife over a gas hob flame, or scraping thin layers of it onto hot toast. All involving quite a bit of faff. Secondly, its really not that tasty to me. Just tastes of coconut water and sugar, but in a very concentrated form. Lastly, instructions say it needs to be thrown within 28 days. Thats too short a time for such a large jar. The extreme sweetness means you cant use too much of it every time, and I only managed to eat a tenth of it in 28 days. Im back to using regular fruit jam instead... and will just have to get the odd jar of Kaya whenever Im near the local chinese supermarket...
Being vegan I am always on the lookout for alternatives to chocolate, cakes and biscuits. A teaspoon of this totally satisfies my sugar cravings. I keep it in the fridge and enjoy when needed!
Delicious my 3 year old loves it too
