Absolutely gorgeous. Never cooked a joint of venison before, so borrowed the previous reviewers tips and it turned out delicious. The meat literally melted in my mouth. My joint was boneless so looked small, but fed five of us with left overs. Expensive at full price, but would buy again on offer or at full price for a special meal. Easier to digest than beef too. Highly recommended.
Browned in olive oil and then cooked long and slow in a lidded casserole dish in the oven with onions, garlic, carrots, celery, bayleaves, thyme, pepper, salt, red wine. It was lovely and went a lot further than I expected given how tiny the joint looked. Three generous portions on day of cooking, plenty of leftovers for another occasion, re-heated very well. Would buy again when on flash sale. Bit pricy for us otherwise.
I followed the instructions for cooking to the letter and although the meat was tender it was also very sinewy and fatty.Wouldnt recommend, wouldnt buy again.
Went a long way
I was a little worried that my fussy kids would notice that it wasnt the usual beef, but they all polished it off. Cooked as per instructions and it was delicious. Went a long way too, fed 2 adults and 3 kids with the same again of left overs .
small but it went a looong way!
Got this on a flash sale at half price and was surprised how small it was initially. However, used a guardian online recipe for ragu with lots of added veggies and it was delicious over pasta...even fussy teen enjoyed it! Got out 16 portions to freeze to try out next as cannelloni or lasagna fillings or with pappardelle.
Ive seen this on Ocado & dithered on whether i should purchase as Ive tried venison before & found it too gamey ! However another flash sale came up & thought id give it a go because of all the good reviews ! Im glad i did i was worried it might be chewy but i think even the worst cook ever couldnt botch this meat up ! I cooked it per instructions & it was lovely plenty of meat did 3 adults with half the joint left for the next night !
