Hampshire Game Whole Partirige.
This is the first time I have cooked game. Thought I would give it a go ( must have had a senior moment). What can I say? Thank you, thank you. I followed your recipe on how to cook it and I must say it was delicious. If you are unsure on buying these I can only say we thought they were delicious. Please enjoy , as we did, Eileen
Surprising amount of meat!
Cooked in the oven as a hot pot with carrots, celery and a large splash of wine (!) and was absolutely yummy. There's also a surprising amount of meat for such a small bird. Will be buying again..
Not worth the effort
If I buy a chicken chances are it's around 6 weeks old but with a wild bird you don't know. I get the feeling the one I had was not young. It was a purple colour when it arrived & I was a touch concerned but it became paler when cooked. That was the last of the good news as it was tough as old boots & I decided early on getting all the meat off was not worth the effort
Delicious little game bird
So happy that Ocado is stocking game these days. The partridges we roasted with bacon and thyme were just delicious. juicy and full of flavour and a real treat.
OK, I didn't have an onion as per the cooking instructions above, but I buttered it and I think I cooked it at the right heat for the right time and the result is a faint and unpleasant smell in the kitchen, not at all like mouth-watering roasting bird, and meat that really seemed to taste of nothing at all. Threw most of it.
It has a strange smell
