Product information
Lagunilla is one of the oldest and finest names in Rioja. Don Felipe Lagunilla San Martin founded this Bodega in 1885. The quality of the Lagunilla wines and many others owe much to his pioneering work in defeating Phylloxera which hit the region in the 1870's. It was he who recommended the use and introduction of American rootstocks to the Rioja vineyards.
Known for its consistent quality and range of wines, Lagunilla is at the forefront of modern wine-making technology whilst at the same time mindful of the tradition and history that has made Rioja one of the classic wine regions of the world.

Tasting Notes
Broad in its black fruit and saturated with oak, this is a ripe, smoky Rioja with prominent fruit-skin tannins that lend it a gamey edge. It benefits from air, bringing tangy orange acidity to add some structural tension. For a griddled sirloin.

Full bodied, all the better if left to breathe
A really good wine. Have never been disappointed with Lagunilla. It does need to breathe for a while to bring out it's best qualities. Excellent value when on offer.

Great if you get the right year
Ive ordered this twice. The first bottle from 2009 was gorgeous, complex yet easy drinking, woody but subtly sweet with a mouth watering finish. The 2013 was insipid and cheap tasting. Ill buy it again in a shop where I can see what year Im getting, but not again from Ocado.

Let it breathe
Really like this Rioja. It's rich and heady, with complex flavours and a long finish. But you really have to open it 40 mins before you want to drink it to enjoy to the max.
