Gonzalez Byass was founded in Jerez by Manuel Maria Gonzalez in 1835. The first Barrels of Tio Pepe were exported to London in 1844, and in 1855 the UK distributor, Robert Blake Byass was made a partner in order to strengthen links to the UK. Ever since, Gonzalez Byass has been dedicated to the production of quality sherry wines, and is still controlled by the Gonzalez family, now in it's fifth generation.
Regional Information
Gonzalez Byass is situated in the city of Jerez, Andalusia, in the heart of D.O. Jerez. Owning over 800 hectares of vineyard, all situated in Jerez superior. This area enjoys a warm and humid climate which helps in the maturation of the grape. The soils of the area are high in chalk, known as 'albariza soil' this helps to maintain moisture during the long dry summers. With vineyards split 95% Palomino and 5% Pedro Ximenez, Gonzalez Byass is the only winery to have PX planted in Jerez.

very strong date flavour

Bought as it was a quality Sherry but was disappointed. The sherry was overwhelmed with the taste of dates. Myself and friends didnt like it. A costly half bottle of Sherry to now use in cooking.

obvious quality but not for me

Not an aficionado of sherries at all so take this as a review to help the uninitiated. I fancied a little tipple and like to drink something special around this time of year. I could tell it's obviously a quality product and it was ok to drink but was too treacly and verging on the taste of cough mixture for me. This may well be an authentic flavour, I wouldn't know, but I don't really like treacle enough. Sadly I prefer a bog standard medium sherry!

"The" Exceptional One!

Of all the sweet, rich, voluptuous Oloroso sherries I have tasted, this is the exceptional one! It is as dark as navy rum and as viscous & rich as prune wine with its wonderful toffeeish raisin like finish on the palate. I can simplify it by simply saying, that.. *THIS IS LIKE DRINKING CHRISTMAS*

Delicious - but only a half bottle!

Beware, this is not a full bottle, despite the large cylinder it comes in, but only 37.5cl. I was not paying attention when I ordered and didn't realise - which makes it very expensive, but delicious nonetheless.
