Top quality sake \- won Champion sake 2017 at IWC
This is very good sake - so much better than that warm firewater you get at most Japanese restaurants. If you only try one sake, try this. Tokubetsu means special - and this is special because the rice has been milled until only 55% of the grain remains, when normally rice for a junmai would be milled much less - usually until 70% of the grain remains. So that explains why it is more refined than a junmai but still with those earthy umami flavours you would expect from a junmai sake. Tasting notes from the IWC Competition: Rich but refreshing. Quality rice notes with some floral characteristics. Velvety texture. Savoury umami on the mid palate. Long tasting.
I agree with the previous reviewer
Despite reading the other review, I like to make up my own mind. I agree with everything that they said. The sake is indeed a little sweeter and creamier than a normal sake. It's not my type of sake but I'm not going to give it 1 star just because of that. You should make up your own mind too - try it.
Cream Sherry of Sakés
Its very expensive but very good, darker, sweeter and creamier in flavour than most Sakés it is something special.
