At Packington Free Range we firmly believe that what is good for the animals and the land will naturally be good for us and better for our customers.
This is the philosophy of our great grandfather before us and we believe passionately in provenance, sustainable and ethical farming which fuels our drive to create an environmentally sound and welfare orientated farm,
This see's our farm in various environmental schemes, which helps encourage the biodiversity on our farm, in fact a RSPCA survey on our farm showed that the number of different bird species had increased by 300% over a 5 year period!
We have also installed solar panels to help further reduce our carbon footprint.
All of this allows us to continue to farm the land here, in Staffordshire, for generations to come.
It's this simple philosophy that enables us to produce the most succulent, richly flavoured meat, often lost in today's intensive farming methods. We know you'll enjoy it.
Rob and Alec Mercer.

To help you get the best from our products we've included some cooking guidelines below...
Legs
Oven cook from chilled. For perfectly cooked, roasted chicken, we recommend preheating your oven to 180°C (160°C fan/Gas mk 4). Remove all packaging. Season the chicken with a sprinkle of sea salt and pepper and place in a roasting tin in the centre of the oven for between 35-45 minutes. Turn the chicken occasionally until the skin is golden brown and crispy and the meat is thoroughly cooked. Check this by ensuring the juices run clear, the meat is not pink and will come away easily from the bone. Rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Wings
Oven cook from chilled. For perfectly cooked, roasted chicken, we recommend preheating your oven to 200°C (180°C fan/gas mk 6). Remove all packaging. Season the chicken with a sprinkle of sea salt and pepper and place in a roasting tin in the centre of the oven for between 15-20 minutes. Remove from the oven when the skin is golden brown, juices run clear and meat comes away easily from the bone. Rest for 5 minutes.
Thigh
Oven cook from chilled. For perfectly cooked, roasted chicken, we recommend preheating your oven to 190°C (170°C fan/Gas mk 5). Remove all packaging. Season the chicken with a sprinkle of sea salt and pepper and place in a roasting tin in the centre of the oven for between 25-30 minutes. Remove from the oven when the skin is golden brown, juices run clear and there is no pink meat. Rest for 5 minutes.
As a general rule we recommend that you do not wash poultry before cooking. And should avoid reheating once cooled.

At Packington Free Range, we have a simple philosophy: what's good for our pigs, chickens and the land will naturally be good for us and better for our customers. Packington Free Range
We believe our family-run business is still going strong after 80 years because of our passion, respect and a relentless drive for excellence. It's these three watchwords that have helped us, and the generations before us to grow into the business we are today.
Passion
We are passionate about provenance, and sustainable and ethical farming. These values drive our work to create an environmentally sound and welfare-orientated farm.
Respect
Our respect extends beyond our livestock to our land as well. We've partnered with Natural England to drive many environmental schemes on our farms, Our fields have grass margins around them, to protect hedgerows and encourage a safe environment for ecosystems to flourish. Many of our field corners are planted with wild bird seed mixes, to supply insects and farmland birds with vital food sources.
Excellence
Packington Free Range pigs and chickens are given plenty of time to mature and lots of green and lush pasture to roam. This is not only best for the animals' welfare, but it also results in first class meat, a fact recognised by our customers and supported by numerous industry awards.

Superb
We only usually buy thighs and legs for flavour but the chicken and the spice rub were simply stunning. Juicy meat, amazing flavour. Bought on sale but it was so good might even consider at full price.
