The Paxton & Whitfield cheese collection contains the finest in artisanal cheese. Each piece is hand-cut by the specialist cheesemongers at Paxton & Whitfield from their Cotswold cheese maturation rooms.
This Gouda-style cows’ milk cheese from Belgium has a distinctive bright red rind and a satisfyingly dense, crystalline texture. The flavour is comforting, full-bodied and mature, with moreish butterscotch notes.
Each wheel of Old Groendal cheese is aged for at least 18 months, using pasteurised milk from a single farm that has been making cheese for more than two generations.
Old Groendal won Gold at the 2019 World Cheese Awards and it is a must-try for your next cheesboard. If you're looking for a drinks pairing, try a Belgian Beer with this mature Gouda-style cheese.
Paxton & Whitfield is the UK's oldest cheesemonger and celebrated its 225th birthday in 2022. The company has held the Royal Warrant of Appointment to every reigning monarch since Queen Victoria in 1850.
"This is a wonderful Gouda-style cheese that really packs a punch: it’s both salty and yet almost caramelly at the same time, with a texture than combines deep creaminess and a gorgeous crystalline quality. A top-notch treat for cheese-lovers!"- Nigella Lawson

very nice
very nice strong, hard cheese, with a slightly crystalline texture. Taste was a little like processed cheese, just a bit odd, so knocked off a point for that. But would buy again and overall recommend.
Delicious
What a lovely unique flavour, which we cannot describe. Strong but not overpowering. Firm but not crumbly. Alas due to price it will be a rare treat. Something to look forward to. I really recommend it for a cheeseboard or ploughman's.
Fabulous
Deep complex flavours. Yes it's expensive but you are buying a high end product. Also you are satisfied with a small piece at a time.
Not for us
We like aged gouda so decided to try this. Unfortunately, we thought that it had a strange almost soapy flavour which neither of us liked, so won't be buying again.
Under 200g & missing a corner!
I was so excited to see Ocado stock P&W cheese so promptly ordered some. This excitement soon changed to overwhelming disappointment. Although completely vac-packed a good chunk of cheese was missing from the corner, I can only assume this is why it weighed quite a bit under 200g. Ill stick to ordering it straight from P&W.
Delicious
This is a beautiful cheese, very strong and crunchy and creamy at the same time. Worth the price
