Tough as old boots
Pastry way too thick and dry with sparse filling. Good luck finding the 'meat' as the ingredients even state a paltry 16% beef. This is not a real pie just something posing as one. No thanks
Not so good
Going down hill seems a lot more vegetable and far less meat
Very odd aftertaste and very little filling
Never again. The gravy was more like a thick instant gravy than a real ale one, having an indefinable and artificial taste. Unlike any ale that I ever had, inside a pie or not. What meat was there was not bad - although spoiled by the odd gravy flavour - and it was mostly lean, but each piece so small it would fit within the area of a penny. The meat in the individual Pukka steak pie is in larger pieces. When it was cut open it was a disappointment - little bits of meat lying in gravy on the bottom of the pie, only just making it halfway to the top. There was as much hot air inside as filling. The base was crispy but, having followed directions, the top was verging on burnt when I checked halfway through cooking. I covered it with two layers of thick foil but by the end it had burnt enough to need scraping off burnt bits before plating. I even checked my oven next day but had no burning when cooking to directions on other items.
Tough Pie
I recently ordered a Pukka pie from Ocado for the first and last time. The steak was tough, and in my opinion inedible. I put it in the garden for the foxes.
Steak?
Had to search around to find the meat in this pie - eventually found 2 little bits hardly worth finding. Disgraceful to call this a Steak Pie.
it was ok but...
size wise for 2 of us, but it could have done with a bit more meat also there was a slight twang which I'm guessing was the ale.
