We go through this like a dose of salts.
unusual
great on fish and in red pepper soup versatile and tangy
love Sumac
If you like lemon youll love sumac, sprinkle on some roasted veg or chicken with olive oil and its delicious.
Poor quality
I use a lot of sumac in my cooking, in everything from pilaf to salad dressing. This version is finely ground, (means it goes stale quicker), generally lacking in flavour and contains added salt which is unnecessary and unforgivable, as it means if added to already seasoned dishes, they becomes too salty. Do yourself a favour and buy the unadulterated crushed berries readily available from other brands.
Good sumac
Good flavour (some other brands can be a bit bland). Very nice sprinkled on roasted chickpeas, along with some sea salt, lemon zest and a pinch of chilli flakes.
Great on lamb kebabs
I bought this solely to follow a Turkish lamb recipe and it now gets used on most grill dishes. It adds a savoury tang flavour that lemon and limes can't match.
