Asbach 3 Year Old German Brandy 70cl

Overrated, but still raises a smile

I bought this brandy owing to the effusive reviews (on other sites), particularly from armed forces members and their families who had enjoyed this on base in Germany. Perhaps their enthusiasm is fuelled more by nostalgia than an objective appreciation. It's certainly an enjoyable brandy. But given you can buy a decent VS Cognac for approximately the same price, I don't think the two compare. This is sweeter, cruder, more of a white wine wallop with caramel notes than the refined hum of France’s finest. Nevertheless, it has not gone to waste, and despite the ever so slight disappointment, if I didn't have Courvoisier to compare it to, it does go down well and raises an appreciative smile.
