Characterful and flavoursome
To me, this has a toasted, rather than a burnt flavour - and not overwhelmingly toasted, just enough to give depth. Im not sure if thats because I got a good batch, or because I like the flavour that other reviewers dislike - I think its probably the latter because Ive bought it a few times and each time its had the same lovely toasty flavour. It also has a slight chewiness and absorbs sauce and flavours well, so Im a big fan.
burnt flavour
First time trying fregola. Overall I liked it, nice texture, enjoyed the shape and worked well in the recipe BUT some of it does taste burnt which really spoilt it. If it didnt taste burnt I would be trying fregola in different recipes. Would be keen to try another brand
Alternative Pasta
I bought this on offer and was not disappointed. Followed instructions and was good results. Lovely toasted flavour (not burnt as previous reviews) and makes a great salad with cavolo nero or spinach. Served it for friends and everyone loved it. Will buy again.
burnt and odd texture
I generally love Belazu products but this was an exception. The fregola seemed burnt - with an unpleasant bitterness to it. Also, it was texturally inconsistent. Some pearls came out perfect, while others were crumbly (not in a nice al dente way) in the centre.
burnt flavour
Real italian fregola should never taste burnt like this one. It just affects the flavour of any dish Ive tried with this Belazu brand. Awful
Something a little different!
Bought this to try a lamb meatball and feta recipe. Fried for a few minutes in tomato paste before adding liquid and cooking for around 20 minutes. Be good to use instead of barley. Slightly al dente. It has a rough texture with no uniformity to size or colour. Definitely worth a try in strews
