In Northern Spain there is a long standing tradition of gastronomic societies, known locally as txokos, where friends meet to cook and share their passion for fine food and drink. In the 1970s one such group of friends formed a txoko in the small town of Ollauri in Rioja Alta. Unsatisfied with the wine on offer at the time, they decided to start their own winery to make wines worthy of partnering their culinary achievements. The result was multi award-winning Rioja winery, Bodegas Beronia.

Tasting Notes
The wine is a deep picota cherry colour, with hints of violet. It is attractive on the nose, with floral, spice and mineral aromas together with notes of chocolate and vanilla over a background of red fruit. On the palate, it is fresh, full-bodied, long and complex with a pleasant, intense flavour that displays great balance between fruit and wood
History
Beronia is named after the Berones, a Celtic tribe who inhabited La Rioja in the 3rd Century BC. The winery was founded in 1973 by a group of local businessmen whose great love of food and wine attracted them to the idea of producing their own Rioja.
Regional Information
Bodegas Beronia is situated in Ollauri, the heart of Rioja Alta. To the North the Cantabria Mountain range and to the South the Demanda Mountain range, a unique area for the production of high quality wines. The influence of the Atlantic and the minerals from the Ebro river convert this area into a privileged area for the cultivation of the vine. In addition the diversity of the soils gives a great complexity and marked character to the wines.

Vinification Details
As soon as the grapes arrived at the winery they underwent cold pre-fermentation maceration followed by alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature below 26Cº, with regular pumping over. Later, the wine was aged in mixed barrels - American oak staves and French oak ends for 9 months, completing its ageing with 2 months in bottle before being released to the market.

Sooo nice - really smooth, fruity, juicy, went down incredibly well with a steak and roasted veg. Would definitely buy again - loved it.
