Normal Grilling
Cover the cooking area of your BBQ with approximately 5cm deep of Big K Charcoal
Spit Roasting
You will need more charcoal than for grilling because of extended cooking time.
Remember
It is always better to have too much than too little charcoal. (Big K Charcoal Products do not 'go off' if kept dry)
The bigger the BBQ grill the bigger bag of Big K Charcoal required.
The bigger the bag the better the value!

...alternatively:

Using big k lighting fluid or big k lighting gel, squeeze approx. Half a full cup of fluid over the charcoal. Allow to soak for 1 min. before lighting.

Avoid
I usually but the 5kg bags which have large lumps of coal, which are great getting up to high temperatures and for maintaining low temperatures over a long time. I bought two of these 3kg bags. Bother are full of tiny chips of coal and dust, which sit in the BBQ tightly packed, leaving little room for airflow. Very disappointing and won't be buying again.
Not our experience
I can't reconcile some of the reviews with our experience. We have used these for a number of years and quality, value and performance has been perfectly acceptable throughout. We use a Weber kettle barbecue, so it may be that the problems occur with larger barbecues/grates.
Avoid at all costs
Terrible product that just produces a lot of smoke and very little heat.
Variable
Our last couple of bags have been really good - nice large chunks - but in the past we've had the problem a lot of people are mentioning of it being almost dust. More consistency would be good.
NOT LUMPWOOD - NO LUMPS, JUST TINY PIECES
Tiny pieces which drop through the grate. More than half the bag was unusable. Ocado should not be stocking such a rubbish poor quality product
Too much smoke, neighbour complained...
I wouldn't buy this again, it's difficult to light, and once it burns it smokes the neighbourhood.
