Yuk
I bought this by mistake instead of the normal Biona jackfruit (which is lovely). However this sweet and smoky version is horrible - soft and mushy, and the smoky flavour is very very strong. I found it inedible.
Lovely in a Mexican
Perfect meat replacement when used correctly, I found adding this to any Mexican dish with a nice tomato sauce, and favourite vegetables adds the perfect, pull pork style replacement. Some jack fruit is needs more prep and and long cooking time to make softer, this stuff was soft and just needed shredding with a fork after heating through.
Strong Smokey flavour
Not unpleasant. Nice texture but a little too strong Smokey flavour for my personal tastes.
Very very smokey
I’m reviewing this product because I got a free sample from Ocado. I can see how it could be used in a meal as a meat replacement - it definitely has a savoury taste and it has an appearance of meat. However, it's definitely not to my taste - far far too smokey flavoured which overwhelms anything else about it. Wouldn't recommend.
Okay but maybe not very versatile
This has a rather strong and unusual sweet and smokey flavour which I think limits what you can do with it. The tin suggests tacos and nachos, and I agree it goes well in that sort of Mexican setting. But otherwise its uses seem a bit limited to me. It might go in something like a Thai curry but then its flavourings are going to be covered up by the curry itself and you may as well use the unflavoured version. The texture is soft and its not really unpleasant, I just can't see myself using it much.
Very disappointing meat substitute.
Rather mushy texture. Very sweet base with spicy brown colouring. Probably better as a fruit in its original state. Poor nutritional labelling and minimal protein content.
