The Neusiedlersee or Seewinkel, is a saltwater lake that, in this flat, warm part of Austria, brings tempering breezes, freshness and protection from disease. The wines as a result are tremendously pure, fresh and fragrant.

This wine exhibits aromas of black and red fruits like blackberry and cherry, along with light spicy notes on the palate.

History

Modest Michael Opitz feels passionately about sustainability and quality and so decided to covert his small family winery to organic viticulture, working alongside nature in every possible way. Grape production and home wine production began from the 1920s on this estate. Wine production for sale and export began from the 2000s.

Regional Information

Opitz's wines are defined by their environment. The Neusiedlersee or Seewinkel, is a saltwater lake that, in this flat, warm part of Austria, brings tempering breezes, freshness and protection from vine disease. The resulting wines are tremendously pure, fresh, and fragrant, with a slight salty character.

Exquisite, organic and vegan!

This organic wine is outstanding! It has a glorious fruity berry flavour and is perfectly balanced - the depth of flavour for a medium bodied wine is exceptional. It is smooth and light enough to avoid being acidic or sharp, yet still delivers a delicious depth of flavour for medium bodied. I love that it is vegan, environmentally friendly and organic – important as grapes are one of the dirty dozen for pesticide residues. I don’t think it merits the expensive price point, but it is good when on offer and as a treat.

Smooth and fruity

By far one of the best wines Ive had in a very long time. Juicy fruity flavour but deliciously smooth. Its environmental credentials only add to an already very happy purchase.
