Perfect
Canned anchovies in large tins used to be very easy to get hold of, but these days, not so. This can contains around 150 fillets, and none of them were mushed up. The tin is packed quite tight with them, just like the old days. Yes, it was a little hard to open. My regular can opener manage a few cuts, but they weren't enough, so I resorted to the old-style can opener on my penknife and managed to get a complete cut around three sides, then carefully folded the lid over. No anchovies were harmed during this operation. I only needed three for the sauce I was making, so I tipped the remainder into a bowl along with the oil, and then laid them out individually on a sheet of baking parchment on a tray. I froze them, then transferred them to a suitable container (actually, I did it it twice, because you'd need a huge tray for the amount of anchovies involved). Yes, you can freeze canned anchovies, and use them from frozen (in sauces) as needed in future. In any case, if you wanted them for canapes, they only take a few minutes to defrost unless you leave them in a big clump. Great product.
good anchovies BUT
We tried 4 different tin openers and ended up using an old fashioned hook and shovel action opener. We did manage to remove all fish from half opened tin but it was a huge effort. My husband was in serious danger of cutting himself on the sharp tin edges. I will NEVER buy these anchovies again. I wish I had read previous reviews but mistakenly thought What could go wrong with a tin of anchovies?
Elusive anchovies
Sadly I'd forgotten that I had bought these once before. As other reviewers have mentioned, the tin seriously impossible to open. I managed to squeeze bits of anchovy out and thought that i would get them all out in one go and store them in a jar. It was not to be. In the end I had to throw most of them away in the tin. Such a waste!
ok, but lots of oil very little fish
Not enough fish, too much oil!
ONLY SIX MONTHS EXPIRY
I still have not opened them, but I ordered six of these and their expiry date is 1 May 2023 - extremely short for a tinned fish!
Agree with others \- impossible to open!
Like some others, I just couldn't open it!! I have a side-cutting tin opener (MagiCan) which pierced the lid then went round and round with no further cutting. The tin is so strong I couldn't lever it open. I think it requires a top-cutting tin opener; would be interested if anyone can confirm this.
