not my cup of vermouth
Was offered this in an Edinburgh bar which was out of Antica Formula. And. Im deep into vermouth experimentation. Really didnt hit the mark for me in terms of expected spectrum of vermouth characters. Something off about it - someone below mentions coffee - perhaps that was it. Quite acrid. Just didnt enjoy. May work for some.
Very distinctive but not for me
I feel this is the marmite of vermouths. It has a very unusual and distinctive taste (I guess from the cascara beans) which I'm sure some would love but really didn't work for me. Strangely, it was reminiscent of whisky to me (then I noticed it was made by a whisky distiller - don't know if there was some connection there). I thought it might work in a negroni but the distinctive flavour still overwhelmed the cocktail. I even used it for cooking and the flovour still shone through but not in a good way.
Great for cocktails
Tried making a few cocktails with this and turned out fab!! Highly recommend
Just not Vermouth!
I really wanted to like this. Loved the bottle the packaging and yet it really failed to deliver on taste and was not met with approval when we did a vermouth tasting session. No real depth of flavour, lacked that lovely mouthfeel you get with a good Italian vermouth. Might get used to make a Negroni...
Very strange, and not in a good way
Confusing progression of flavours that don't really work together, ending in a sickly fake caramel note. Others seemed to find it less objectionable than me, but I had to wash the taste out of my mouth after one sip.
Amazing
This is absolutely the best vermouth, sticky, sweet and boozy. There is a hint of coffee, in a really good way. Try it. Belsazar is a close second but they are different. Drink neat over ice.
