But he's not really that type. The mere sight of robusta beans or instant coffee crumples his brow and clenches his jaw.
After all, good coffee is never a matter of taking it easy - flavour doesn't just 'Turn Up'. It needs to be cultivated by expert growers, coaxed by obsessive roasters, and given the 'Hooves Up' by the Fussiest critic there is.

Preparation and Usage
(A Quick Brewing Guide)
1. Choose your weapon
Beans, Ground
Grumpy Mule coffees are suitable for use in a wide range of brewing equipment. For espresso machines, finely grind your beans or choose espresso grind for best results.
2. Load up x2
Use 2 heaped dessertspoonfuls (those big ones your mum only had out for special occasions) of fresh, ground coffee per cup. If you want to be a nerd about it that's 15g per 250ml of coffee.
Espresso heads, a good dose for our coffee is 14-18g per double shot with an extraction time of about 27 seconds. Just don't count mississipily (watch friends, it'll make sense).
3. Fire!
Allow heated water to come off the boil (about 93-95°) before pouring. It's just enough time to tweet a pic of the pack at a jaunty angle. Serve the coffee immediately once brewed.

Nasty and bitter
I am a big fan of Grumpy Mule Sumatra ground coffee and it is my favourite non specialty coffee I buy in supermarket but this coffee is an insult to the ground version. IT IS NOT THE SAME COFFEE!!!!! How can anyone justify the award Great Taste is beyond my understanding This coffee is undrinkable, horrible, bitter and no amount of sugar can kill the bitterness. Freshly ground coffee should be way tastier then the one which has been ground weeks ago.
Recommended if you like a light roast
This is probably my favourite supermarket coffee. It's almost as good as the stuff from the fancy coffee shop I used to go to. This is lightly roasted which is my preference, nice complex flavours and gives a stronger than average caffeine kick.
fresh and great acidity
Bought these as was on special offer and will definitely continue to buy. The whole beans are fresh and the coffee is well balanced with great acidity. My new fave!
Bitter and burnt flavour
The ground version is so much better. The beans are dry and stale. Really bad coffee.
annoying
Normally get the ground version which is SO good. This time I thought Id save a few pennies and grind myself. We use an aero press. Maybe its my grinder but the coffee was weak but with a burnt flavour. Wont be buying again. Though shame there is such a price difference for buying ground coffee.
horrible
I got these a a substitution. They are dry like old bones and the taste is quite burnt.
