lovely
Lovely soft flesh - quick to cook
READ BEFORE COOKING - SERIOUSLY CONCERNED!!
Was sent these as a sub for whole mackerel. As I have not had these before, I looked at reviews to maybe getting cooking tips. I was horrified to read about customers getting seriously ill after just handling or eating them. OCADO, I think you should withdraw these & contact the company involved with our concerns. Obviously, I binned my purchase.
Fresh, tasty, firm texture
I've switched to this brand because it claims to be line-trawled (less by-catch, I believe). I've been eating mackerel from Ocado for a year or two - I try to eat it on the day it's delivered or the day after; it doesn't keep like farmed salmon. I sizzle it in oil and then add garlic and lemon and a couple of fried chopped mushrooms.
Scombroid poisoning from these fish!
I got Scombroid poisoning from these mackerel fillets. I was first suspicious when handling the fish made my hands red and itchy and my suspicions were confirmed when as soon as I started eating the cooked fish my lips and tongue started burning and swelled. My airways swelled and I had to take an antihistamine tablet as a matter of urgency after only having eaten half of one fillet! The rest went in the bin and I wouldn't trust this brand again!
Tingling and burning sensation after eating it
Myself my husband and both kids had like acidic sensation on our mouths shortly after testing the fish. We couldnt explain what it was but reading the reviews felt like a lot of customers have experienced the symptoms. Ocado please stop selling it!
scombroid poisoning
Both my husband and I had scombroid poisoning symptoms after eating this. I have contacted Ocado to ask that they stop selling this product.
