Champagne Henri Giraud
Henri Giraud was established in Ay in 1625. Grapes are grown on the chalky slopes of the Montagne de Reims where the House’s long-standing respect for the terroir and organic viticulture mean that their vineyards have zero residue of herbicide and pesticide.
Base wines are vinified in Argonne Oak bringing unrivalled richness and depth of flavour. Reserve wines dating back to 1990s from Henri Giraud’s own version of the solera, their unique “perpetual reserve”, are used to add dimensions unreached by other Domaines.

History
The origins of Champagne Henri Giraud go back to 1625 when the Hémart family settled in Aÿ. At the beginning of the 20th century Léon Giraud, a veteran of the Battle of the Marne, married a young lady Hémart. He rebuilt the family’s magnificent vineyard that had just been devastated by phylloxera and First World War. Claude Giraud, 12th generation of the Giraud-Hémart family, today presides over the destiny of this Champagne House.
Regional Information
Aÿ in Champagne is famous for its chalk. The soil in the vineyards is only on average 20cm deep lying on top of 200 metres of chalk. The south-facing slopes produce lovely ripe grapes which is tempered by the cooling effext of the Marne river which snakes through the valley.
