Blue tits love it
I've had this up for a couple of weeks now and the birds are visiting it. It isn't the most robust of things, but it has happily survived the weather and the birds.
Squirrel ate it all in less than a week!
I thought a sunflower seed feeder might give the smaller birds something else to eat as the squirrel, jackdaws, magpies and starlings have colonised the fat feeders. Only saw 1 blue tit on it, then the squirrel discovered it and was filling his boots for breakfast and dinner. At least it's still in 1 piece!
Bird feeder
Easily unscrewed top for refilling, sturdy mesh sides. Goldfinches flock to feed, needed refilling almost daily in cold weather
avoid
Bottom keeps falling out
Not easy to refill
Small birds love this food but I have made several attempts to release the base to refill and have not been successful :o(
birds love it but release catches are awkward
I wanted to give a glowing review for this feeder as I was delighted with it at first. Nuthatches and goldfinches are flocking to it, and all kinds of tits too when they can get a look-in. But despite all this enthusiasm from the birds its still more than half full after three days. Sunflower hearts wont last long so I had to discard the rest and refill it. I wouldnt call it easy release at all. I struggled to press the stiff plastic catches far enough to release the base. Perhaps they will loosen with more use. However if they do, I worry that it will be too flimsy and not hold together. Im not impressed with the release mechanism so its three stars from me five stars from the birds though!
