Tasting Notes
Aromas of wild flowers, perfumed violets and red cherry notes are followed by concentrated flavours of black cherry, Kalamata olive and dried herbs. Attractive in its youth with fruit purity but will develop complexity with bottle age.
History
Isabel Estate is one of the original Marlborough vineyards with some of the oldest vines in the region on original rootstock. In 1980 pilot Mike Tiller discovered a precious pocket of land and he and his wife Robyn built a winery on the site and named it in honour of Mike's mother, Isabel. Throughout the 1980s the couple planted key noble varietals and began to deliver fruit of exceptional quality, in high demand from premium and internationally renowned wine producers.
Regional Information
The Marlborough region has a maritime climate. The cooling influence of the nearby ocean contributes to the great acidity and freshness that we know and love in wines from this region. The region also benefits from plentiful sunshine to assist grape ripening.

Vinification Details
The fruit was fermented in stainless steel tanks with a significant portion of wild ferment. It was then held cold for seven days prior to fermentation to help extract flavour and enhance colour stability. Fermentation lasted 7-10 days. The wine was then left on the skins to macerate and develop supple sinew-like tannins before being pressed, then transferred to French oak (35% new). The barrels were regularly tasted during maturation until the desired balance and flavour profile was achieved.

Smooth

This was a lovely wine, very drinkable. It packed a fair bit of taste yet was still very light. I received it to review and I wasn't expecting to like it initially, I thought it may be heavy but it is very drinkable. It is at the pricier end but it is worth it as not sharp after taste as you can get with a lighter wine.

Not as nice as I thought it would be

I'm reviewing this product because I got a free sample from Ocado. I would describe it as a watery-looking red in the glass. It's a big wine - with a blackberry taste. It was quite strong and to me the tannins made it taste harsh. Sadly, I did not enjoy it - I was expecting more at this price point.

Nice but not amazing

I was sent this to review by Ocado.( thank you) It is a good red but I wouldn’t pay £25 for it. It tastes young, & it may well develop more complexity with age but I’d expect it to be at that level already with this sort of price tag. It was pleasant to drink, dark fruity, hints of herb & liquorice but not outstanding.
