Black Forest iced gateau
I purchased this cake for my friends birthday as he’s a big fan of Black Forest gateau I would like to say thank you to Ocado for a brilliant product . I would highly recommend this purchase.
Lowering of quality. Now tasteless.
Bought this before Christmas, was enjoyable despite the lack of cherries. When back in stock this week bought again. Big mistake! Significant lowering of quality. Tasteless as less/little kirsch flavour, VERY little sponge, nearly all "cream" so collapsed when cut. Now it is nothing like the picture. Even chocolate on top is now poorer quality. Waste of £15. Poor quality control by Marks to allow such a drop in quality. Will not buy again.
Amazing!
I really loved this!! Very rich amazing quality! Deep creamy chocolate flavors and lots of cherries! Shame the cherries were glazed though! Bit too sweet! Would highly recommend
Delicious, dark, cake itself not overly sweet
We had low expectations after reading these reviews, but to our surprise we loved this. The cake was rich and dark, the cherries not as stingy as we expected (perhaps low expectations from reviews helped!) and the creamy choc mousse was rich and sweet. I bake, and dislike overly sweet cake, but the cake itself here wasn't and I just didn't eat all the icing (I never do, unless it's eg dark ganache or something). I do wonder if people's expectations for bought cakes now are that they should be wince inducingly sweet, as non-frozen mass production requires due to sugar being a preservative? This wasn't as sickly as that, and all the better for it. It was really lovely and we will buy again.
Delicious gateaux
Our gateaux was delicious. The outer chocolate casing was good quality and the sponge was moist with good amount of cherries. Cant understand the negative reviews. I defrosted and used half the same day and it was just as lovely the next day. Had double cream with it for extra indulgence. Yes its a little pricey but would buy again as so nice.
A hit on Boxing Day
I’m really surprised at some of the reviews. This was liked by all my guests,some of whom are very picky! I’ve marked it down one star because I agree it should have more cherries, they are on the stingy side , especially given the price. Fortunately, had cherry compote to serve with it , but it was a lovely dessert nonetheless and I would buy again - in my view , it was nothing like a Sara Lee gateau (as one poster has commented)
