Great lettuce & prepare as below for perfection
I did what I do with every lettuce. I take the leaves off & put in the bowl of a salad spinner (or bowl & use a tea towel outside to shake it round) fill with water, put a plate on top to submerge, leave in fridge pref for the day overnight but works just for a few hours, spin. Put kitchen roll in the bottom of an airtight container, put lettuce in, half way another sheet of kitchen roll & it will be lovely & crisp, ready to use & lasts well too. Do this with all lettuce & youll never do it any other way. I bought a lettuce spinner & the well known airtight container, a lock & l one, just to be able to do this.
Limp and lifeless
The last ones ordered were limp and lifeless. To the point of being mouldy in the middle. I normally put them in a glass of water in the fridge and they perk up and are edible not this last ones though. I'll stick to iceberg lettuce for a bit till the quality picks up with these.
Exceptionally Small
I ordered this a second time after enjoying its taste and value as it lasted almost a week. To say it was small was an understatement it had three leaves on one of the lettuce where was the rest. Emailed requesting a refund on Thursday evening still no response on Saturday evening. Ocado you are usually so efficient not happy
Just add water
Bit of a tip as these normally arrive wilting and a bit limp, however I have discovered that if you cut 1cm off the bottom and stick them in half a glass of water, they magically perk up and become super fresh lettuce. Ive done this with my last two packs and am seriously impressed with how this lettuce has come back to life.
is it just me??
I have been buying this lettuce for a while now but the last two had a strange aftertaste as I ate the lower part of the leaves. Couldnt eat them. I may have been unlucky but Im now curious about how exactly these lettuces are grown.
