Ocado British Growing Basil
Product information
Basil is one of the most popular Mediterranean herbs with its lush green leaves and pungent flavour reminiscent of Italian cooking. It's a fragrant herb that adds a burst of flavour to many dishes, simply wash the leaves and sprinkle into pasta sauces, soups, salads, and marinades. You can also use it to make fresh pesto or garnish your favourite pizza.
For a refreshing summer drink, add a few leaves to a jug of water with sliced lemon and cucumber. Or, try infusing olive oil with basil for a delicious salad dressing or dipping sauce.
Top Tip!
The best way to look after basil is to let the plant tell you it needs watering, as it will start to wilt. The plants will quickly spring back up and the stress will actually increase the oil content they are producing, improving the flavour.
It is also important not to water the plants too soon before harvesting the leaves, as this will dilute the flavour. Basil is highly susceptible to chill (below 10°C) or cold draughts and the leaves will start to blacken.

Storage
Growing herbs are 'cut as you need', harvest just above leaf growth to encourage the plant to re-grow.
Watering the herbs from the bottom is the key to keeping them healthy and to prolonging their life. Your herbs have always been watered from below so by keeping to this regime you will extend the life of the plant.
Remove the herb pots from their sleeves and place the pots on a saucer. By placing water at the bottom of the tray you can always see how much water your plants have taken up. As most herbs originate from hot countries, they like to be kept on the dry side. The more heat and light they are exposed to, the more frequently they will need watering. Generally water little and often and never keep your plant in standing water.

Aromatic and lasts for weeks
I have repotted to few containers and trimmed properly to encourage more growth and I've been having a supply of fresh basil for few weeks now. Very aromatic, strong taste.
Okay, but you have to do stuff.
As a previous reviewer advised, as with all supermarket basil it has to be divided into lots of smaller plants. Although this can be time consuming they will soon grow and will be happier and healthier.
BASIL POT
I find that if you transfer one of these plants to a much bigger pot and keep in watered it lasts for weeks so really good value compared with buying bags of leaves.
Brown leaves after two days
Leaves shrivelled and went brown after two days. Wont be buying again.
Instantly turns black, sheds leaves and withers
Third time I've bought it thinking I wasn't taking proper care of it. Now realise the whole lot must be rotten with mould/bacteria infection. Was literally delivered yesterday and so I haven't even had a chance to get the watering wrong with this one. Instantly dead.
Dead
The plant arrived a bit sad looking, wilted and died within a few days ( despite watering and feeding). Ocado needs to review how these potted herbs are stored, something isn't right.
