History
Saint Clair Family Estate is owned by Neal and Judy Ibbotson, viticulture pioneers in Marlborough since 1978. Grapes were originally supplied to local wine companies; however a desire to extend the quality achieved in the vineyard through to the finished wine led to the establishment of Saint Clair Family Estate in 1994. The company's mission is to create world-class wines that exceed their customers' every expectation. Neal Ibbotson combines his extensive viticultural expertise plus Marlborough’s mix of climate and soils with the talent of one of New Zealand’s leading winemaking teams, led by Stewart Maclennan and Kyle Thompson. From 1994 when wines from the first vintage all won medals including gold, the name Saint Clair has been synonymous with quality and its award-winning record continues today.
Regional Information
Marlborough is situated at the top of New Zealand's South Island and receives long days of sunshine and cool nights during the growing season. Fruit was sourced from a selection of premium vineyards located in the Dillons Point sub-region of the lower Wairau Valley, at the mouth of the Wairau River. These vineyards are planted on floodplains, rich in nutrients, producing wines with heightened expression. Each vineyard block was harvested at optimum flavour maturity and physiological ripeness.

Vinification Details

The grapes were machine harvested and transported to the winery quickly and pressed off immediately to minimise skin contact.    After cold settling the juice from each batch was fermented in stainless steel tanks at cool temperatures using selected yeast strains.
Every batch of Saint Clair wine (from each different vineyard site) is kept separate in small tanks allowing us to showcase our regions diversity for Sauvignon Blanc. The final wine is then carefully finished and bottled.

Proper fresh Sauvignon Blanc

Have tried many NZ Sauvignon Blancs and this along with Brancott Terrier Series are my favourite from Ocado. So fresh and delicate not tart. A really good example, reminds me of Cloudy Bay.

Someone liked it

Not a fan of NZ Sav Blanc, but my mother (who is) enjoyed it. A bit like some other well-known brands.
