Product information

Quinta da Fonte Souto is a new wine project from the Symington family in the exciting Portalegre sub-region of the Alto Alentejo in southern Portugal. It was always going to take something special for them to take their first steps beyond the Douro, and with this stunning property situated at a relatively high altitude within the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park to the east of the hot Alentejo plain, they believe they have found all the conditions they were looking for. This is a long-term project with the objective of putting the unique terroir of this sub-region on the map, for wine lovers in Portugal and elsewhere around the world.

History
The Symington Family have been making top quality wines and ports in Portugal since 1882. Today the company is managed by the 4th and 5th generation who carry on the families dedication to producing the best possible wines winning the top awards at all the international competitons. They are one of the Top 50 Most Admired Wine Brands in the World and in 2019 were declared the Most Ethical Drinks Company in the World
Regional Information
Lying on the slopes of the São Mamede Range at an altitude of 500 metres in the Alentejo sub-region of Portalegre, the property benefits from cooler and wetter conditions than the hot Alentejo plain. These wines express the freshness and elegance provided by the altitude, as well as the structure and complexity from the estate's extensive collection of mature, low-yielding vines.

Vinification Details
The hand-picked grapes are taken to the on-site winery. Manual sorting is followed by destemming and gentle crushing after which the grapes are transferred to a pneumatic press for a light pressing. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at low temperatures in order to conserve the wine's aromatic expression. The start of malolactic fermentation is prevented, thus ensuring the wine's crisp, fresh character.

Good wine

I received this free in return for a review… I shared this with friends over dinner and on the whole it was well received. Cheaper alternatives out there but superb wine as a treat at a dinner party

Suprising

‘I’m reviewing this product because I got a free coupon from Ocado. I don't normally buy whites from Portugal but this was very enjoyable - a little strong at 13% but we enjoyed the flavor

A bit too acidic for our taste

Reviewing for Ocado after receiving a free voucher. This has a pleasant palate but a very acidic finish so not very enjoyable

A cheap wine masquerading as a more expensive one

I’m reviewing this product because I got a free coupon from Ocado. I wanted to like this but it has very little taste. Too tangy. Would be better if under £6

excellent young white

Im reviewing this on behalf of Ocado. Deliciously crisp with subtle fruit flavour, would happily pay 15 a bottle for this Serve very cold pre dinner or with lightly flavoured white meats or fish
