Product information
The Chocolate Block has become something of a cult favourite.
The quest to understand the name of this wine and the wine itself is now the stuff of legend. While we are not about to reveal all, we can say that the style of the wine is a reflection of our belief that the Cape, with its Mediterranean climate, is eminently suited to blended reds.
The make-up of this wine is tweaked from vintage to vintage to best reflect the season and the ancient vines of great character that are an integral part of the wine’s charm and personality.

Vinification Details
The long drought in the Cape has made correct picking dates crucial. With yields being even lower than usual, the quality was exceptional with very concentrated berries. Syrah remains our backbone with Grenache Noir lending a delicate fruitiness and finesse, Cinsault giving floral and ripe strawberry notes and Cabernet Sauvignon contributing good tannic grip and structure in the blend. The wine matures in French oak barriques as well as 2 500L French oak foudres for 12 months.

and very easy to drink

Average
Might be better with a good steak as it is very full bodied.

Fantastic
Full body red wine, really nice finally a product in the same league of Italian and French wines. Good value for money
Was this helpful?
Highly tannic
A really good well made wine, but really requires food, to soften the tannins. Not a wine to drink in front of the tv.
